An Eveing with Margaret Trudeau April 24, 2009
Thank You, Margaret
The long awaited evening with Margaret Trudeau is now a recent and unforgettable memory. Margaret stood on the darkened stage at the Atlantic Theatre Festival speaking of her years with Pierre Elliot Trudeau, of her sons and of her descent into the turmoil of mental illness. She spoke honestly of her pain, of how mental illness transformed her life and of her recovery and renewed hope for the future. Like an experience in virtual reality, we could see and feel the picture she painted; we could share her pain. Many of us had been in the very place of which she spoke.
The CMHA staff would like to thank Margaret for sharing her
experiences and, impossible as it seems, for beginning an intimate relationship with three hundred people at once. Thank you, Margaret,
for opening your heart, your mind and for sharing your wisdom
and insights into mental illness with us.
